Videos

I’d never heard of Teepa Snow until a fellow caregiver mentioned her videos. She’s the real deal. For sure check out her Positive Approach To Care videos on youtube.

Caregivers’ phone app

There’s a ton of info here, and it was one of my go-to’s when I took care of Mom and Dad. Didn’t realize at the time that it was put together by Home Instead Senior Care, a company I work for now. A little serendipity maybe? It’s available for Android and iOS.

Streaming music apps

Who doesn’t love good music? You do, and your loved one does. If dementia comes into play, music may be one of the last familiar things the brain holds on to.
There are several streaming music apps – Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, and others. Put one on your phone, dial in what you want to hear, and play. Pandora gives me better control of what genre of music I want to play, so it’s my go-to. Streaming music is a caregiver’s best tool.

Alzheimer’s Association

They’re nationwide, and they’re a good resource. Check with your local office to see what they offer; here’s a link to the Charleston SC office. If you can find one of their Savvy Caregiver classes in your area, take it. It’s more geared to the dementia patient, and I learned tons from it.
